The guttation droplets were the confusion for me and what pointed me to I. Dryadeus, as the only other fung I can recall with guttation is Fistulina.

With it being in plane I was also a bit confused but it looks remarkably like dryadeus to me.

I trust your judgement David :)

It does look like dryadeus, that's a given. :thumbup1:

But 'looks like' is really just one part of an Id.

Dryadeus is not called 'oak bracket' for nothing.

If you have a look at the frdbi records, pretty much all the 750ish finds (couple of odd anomalies withstanding) are on Quercus.

Your welcome.

Interested to know if either the fungi directory here or the fungi I'd app we're used to aid identification, Dan ?

.

Thanks David. I did use the app, but my phone has a few issues that mean it doesn't work entirely as it should. I also made the mistake of looking for a saprophyte, due to the positioning of the fb, which obviously yielded no results, nor did searching for plane as a host species.

I know I. hispidus well, from ash, but with the droplets, didn't recognise it, nor was I aware that it could be found on plane.

I would've tried the directory but was in a rush when I posted the pictures earlier

Happy to be proven wrong.

I gave an opinion based on my experience of positive host Id association.

I've been back over the records this morning and amongst the 795 recordings it has beech, elm, hazel, Ash, alder & pine ! listed as hosts

along with this one record of it on plane.

Pseudoinonotus dryadeus (as Inonotus dryadeus), on/with Platanus × hispanica (as plane), trunk, 14/11/1997, England, Cornwall, Trelowarren, SW7223, coll.: B. Candy, FRDBI Record No.: 1607117, Origin of Record: Cornwall Records (full record )

Dan can you get a shot of it developed ?
