oh and barletts pay for any training needed,yeah ppe isnt a perk,but some firms get you want they want to get you,ie cheaper the better,others let you choose what you want,so...

I worked for Barletts abit last year , got some good climbing time with them , money was'nt that bad just under a €100.00 a day the only thing I did'nt like was the ground staff were always giving out about everthing and everyone and we did'nt get paid for over time I did use my own climbing kit as there gear was'nt great.

Do you still have to own and use your own saws for Bartletts?

NO they have 2xMS T200 and all ground saw's , just was better to use my own climbing kit , like to know how much its been used and who use it.

To add there climbing kit was very out dated. harness and climbing rope.

I subbed to Glendale 6 years ago, used my own kit. 90 a day.

I know someone who has recently worked for Bartletts. He negotiated a good wage as he is a good climber.

When I did my cS38/39 one of Glendales guys was on the course with me. He had been with Glendales for a first few years, and he was the lead climber on his team. To say he was dangerous, inept and a liability was an understatement!

He was given loads of chances/second chances by the assessor, but was eventually told to get out of the tree. Needless to say he failed!

Hi All,

 

I'm a Regional Director for Glendale. We have set payscales for staff across the Country. In general Lead Climbers earn up to £22,500 p.a, Chargehands up to £19,000 p.a. and Skilled Arborists £17,300. Higher in London & SE

 

Managers have flexibilty to grade staff based on qualifications, experiences etc and apply the appropriate rate.

 

All staff have 10 days full and 10 days 1/2 sick pay p.a, pension, 20 days holiday rising to 22 after 5 years.

 

Can't speak for other regions but in the Southwest we spent £24k on Arb training in the last 12 months.

 

PPE should be provided by the employer and is by Glendale, as is saws and all kit.

 

All but two of our Arb offices hold AAAC status and the remaining 2 should be over the next 6 months.

 

Whilst I like the benefits offered by Glendale through offering a whole package my view is that most arb staff would sooner have more money in their pockets and worry about sick pay and pension etc when it happens. We're stable with longterm contracts so it depends on your priorities are really.
