I haven't reduced one before has anyone got any pics of there reductions on Quercus ilex as I have one coming up soon and have noticed they haven't got much in the inner crown . Cheers in advance.

Really? Ive not done many, but can think of three over the last few years that were reduced/topped quite severely to avoid structural collapse; a few years on and plenty of new shoots they look as ok as heavily reduced tree can do...

the operations must have been timed well then, they tend to suffer with strip dieback at the wound, doesnt effect them much but as with all tree issues tends to be a case by case thing, optimal growing conditions make a massive difference to how trees cope.

Im just a bit worried about were to prune back to as it might have to be to nodes instead of to leafy side branches . I have been told like tony said to go light which is what I have alredy put in my quote and what has been agreed by the TO .

Here's one we did about 4 years ago, then how it looked 2 years later.

 

That's put my mind at rest as that one has come back well and I will be going lighter than that because of the TPO on this tree . Cheers great help:thumbup:
