Good vid. The new GRCS has been beefed up and is a lot heavier. It also has an option for a visor plate that you notch into the tree. It does stop any upwards movement. Obviously not dropped a Volvo on it!

I really wanted a grcs and nearly went down the route of making one to save pennies.

But then Reg decided to sell his Hobbs as he was going down his different routes. And he did sing its praises and I can totally agree. We've knocked some big lumps on it but I never thought there would be that much difference.

 

How about Stein double bollard v's Hobbs next??

A couple of non constants to the experiment being that the stein isn't a ratchet system and should have more strength. However, smaller bollard x 2.

 

I'm happy with the Hobbs. Only the other day my brother in law was looking at some of our tackle and asking 'whats that for' (stein 2000 i think) but I joking said the Hobbs would take the wife's car (mini one) quite easily.

 

Never done a dead drop like that though!!!

I do tend to save my ropes for more appropriate loads.

 

And find that the Hobbs does it just fine.

Id definitely have a hobbs over GRCS. We make do with a crappy porta but we have taken down some beasts with minimal kit... A little imagination goes a long way.

Maybe the comparison should have done more with the fixed bollard on the GRCS? Never had a problem with mine. To take monster bits like in the video you would need monster split tails blocks and ropes.
