Yes you are right - Lantra recently launched a new range of forestry and arboriculture training and qualifications. You can now get everything you need in one place.

This is the new version you are looking for.

Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance

Upon taking the Lantra Awards Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance, you will be able to prove your competence in forestry and/or arboriculture operations and; evidence your ability to meet licence to practice and/or other legal requirements made by the relevant sector, profession or industry.

After having achieved the qualification, you will have the opportunity to obtain a competency card (licence to practice) for employment within the key professional sector, thus enabling further employment opportunities for which competency is a significant requirement.

You can find a local training provider by calling 02476 696996.

HI all, just a quick overview.

The 'old' training and assessment landscape (we know and love), i.e. Lantra Awards / NPTC, is/has changing/changed and both organisations are offering 'recognised' training and assessment opportunities, as I understand it.

Hence, the previous rule of 'NPTC', now technically City & Guilds but retaining NPTC as a brand name, as the industry norm for "certificates of competence" is/will be no more.

One good thing though, not to say widening the market place to competition isn;t agood thing anyway (but it does confuse things somewhat), is that the certificates will be referred to as "licence to practice" whihc will hopefully better clarify to 'first-time' holders their significance, i.e. they don;t / shouldn't confer competence (one their own.)

Hope this helps, apologies if not!

Cheers..

Paul

Guys

I'll try and keep it simple.

The CS units form NPTC (City and Guilds) are going. They are being replaced by QCF (Qualification Credit Framework) so that they will meet the recently revised NOS (National Occupational Standards).

Both Lantra Awards and City and Gulids NPTC will now be offering exactly the same QCF qualification.

eg QCF Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Crosscutting. QCF Level 2 Award in Felling and Processing trees up to 380mm etc etc. (most of the qualifications remain similar to the old CS units with some slight changes in line with current best practice). There are also some additional new QCF qualifications available.

The choice is yours regarding how you acheive these qualifications. Both Lantra Awards (since Oct 1st) and City and Guilds NPTC (soon) will offer training courses in order to prepare you for the usual Independent assessment. (other training providers are available) These QCF assessments can be booked via an Lantra Awards "Centre" or an NPTC assessment centre, both of whom have a list of accredited assessors. Your training provider should be able to either arrange this for you or put you in touch with an assessment centre.

In summary Lantra Awards and City and Guilds NPTC are both offering training and assessment in the same new QCF qualifications. Both organisations say this should make it a more streamlined process and give you better value for money - lets see

Sorry did I say i'd keep it simple:confused1:
