You've probably heard this all before. I've had a crap saw for q couple of years and its time to replace but I've been reading the internet and am now unsure as some bad reviews on both have been seen.

Whats best - Stihl 261 or Husky rancher 455e?

All views welcome - Thanks:001_huh:

neather, either a husky 550xp or a husky 560xp.

the eqivilant husky to the ms261 is a husky 346xp or a husky 550xp

Neither of those is equivalent to the 550 in any way other than engine size - 550 would wipe the floor with both of them

OP, as much as I'm husky through and through, the Stihl MS 261 is a pro saw whereas the Husky rancher is a semi pro/heavy domestic saw so on paper the Stihl should be the better.

What you want depends on what you're going to be using it for.

Everything starts with your intended use - cutting wood isn't the end of it....one tone a year or one ton a week etc

Then comes budget - how much do you want to spend and have you considered tools, PPE and any other abcillary kit - saw horse .....

Then will you consider just brand new or secondhand.

Then we advise what is best for your budget and use.

Simple as that:thumbup:

Husky or Stihl - choice is yours, both do good saws, lately Husqvarna are coming up with some belters, Stihl have a good long term reputation but the 261 you mention has had some serious issues with their crankshafts and sprocket bearings.

I have used the new 560 briefly and it is very fast and feels good. The old 346XP is one damn good saw.

Answer the above and you will get some good info in return:thumbup:
