Compact v digger

Hi Guys, ive got the option of a Kubota compact tractor B2110 (21hp), The option is part payment for a job (ive know people for ages and tractor is good).

I had planned to sell it on and put the cash towards a 1.5t mini digger, However ive been thinking maybe to keep it and get a back actor and front loader. seems sensible as the 3point linkage options offer way more versatility than a mini digger such as flail cutters, rotovator etc. But i wanted to see if anyone had experience of the back actor being any good? example

Lewis landlord 200 back actor digger excavator with pto pump for tractor. | eBay

Im sure id use the compact more than mini digger hence idea.

A backactor on a compact is pathetic IMO compared to the real deal and far less manourevable. But it depends what your work mostly, from your name I guess you do alot of fencing in which case an auger is also much better on a digger then a tractor. Also digger can be fitted with grabs etc for brash and timber. (I wouldn't go for a small digger without expanding tracks personally). However 1.5t diggers can't run flails. I also have a post knocker on my digger which is awesome, can get a post in almost anywhere (on banks, over ditches streams etc tight corners.)

a back actor on a compact is more than you have so more versatile but check the pto on the tractor as on some of the older ones the pto goes the wrong way not sure what model but someone will tell you.

also if you put a loader on it it is very unstable when lifted high i had one and found out the bad way .

just my thoughts :)

All depends what you want to do with the machine.

have a slightly smaller (and old) Kubota 19 HP with back actor and loader - been very useful for all sorts of things, but the digger is a bit low on power when trenching to be honest. Very versatile though for what we need from it.

Regarding the Lewis back actor, will the sub frame fit on the tractor or can it be adated if not??

I know a guy who just replaced his mini with a Deere compact because of the versatility. Of course, it's because the Deere is better suited to his needs which I think are:

Post knocker

Auger

Log splitter

Flail

Trailed mower

Pulling a trailer

Front loader

Travelling short distance on road

Back hoe (occasionally).

He's loving it.
