Handed down on a plate.

Recommended Posts

I've just read through the whole thread, I'm a bit disappointed.

As a father of twin girls, one of the things I am most proud of about the way me and my wife raise them is that they are genuinely happy for other people when they (the other people) get / achieve something.

This whole thread stinks of a wining child screaming "it's not fair".

I'd like to help my kids in any way I can when they get to that sort of time in life, and if that includes handing them over my business I'd be proud and honoured to do so. What would be the alternative? Selling it to them? Really?

And a point sorely missed in the " farm subsidies" ranting in this thread is why we (in Europe) have them.

As a collection of nation Europe aims to be self-sufficient in food. It is both a bargaining aid (why buy foreign, we can grow it here.... Unless you drop your prices by a lot) and an insurance system.

On top of that, the whole subsidies system "needs to be fair" so when Spanish sheep-farmers needed support or else entire regions of Spain were getting seriously de-populated with potentially disastrous consequences, all of the rest of European sheep farmers benefitted too. There's examples like that for nearly every branch of farming.

Most farmers will happily give up all and any subsidies, as long as that the goes for all farming, Europe-wide at least.

And finally, "self-made" or "handed down"???

None of your business!!!
