Stihl MS461 getting nearer - unofficially...

Went into my local Stihl dealer today to try and buy an MS460 to be told that they had sold all their old stock. I looked and a couple of the on-line retailers are still showing them for sale but as I have a good relationship with my local dealer and as they were £50 cheaper than the best on-line price I came away with a shiny new MS461. I just hope its as good as the old 460.

Is anyone else out there using a 461? If so what do you think of it?

Cheers, Nick

I've had a 461 for a few weeks now and been using it on felling and processing some biggish sycamores . . . in short Stihl have won through with this saw and if you like the 460 then you won't be disappointed.

it's got good balance, rapid throttle uptake, not lacking in torque and as the anti vibes are the rubber type it doesn't feel like a 441.

The manual states you can run 16, 18, 20, 25, 28 & 30" bars although I've only been running 20".

The feel, weight and look of the saw is very similar to the 460 and it obviously shares some of the same parts.

I'm really glad Stihl have released a new saw which immediately feel and runs right, straight out of the box . . .just like the old days.

To cap it all off the exhaust is the same so you can retrofit a dual port front cover from a 460.

HI TIMBER hows your 461 mate on the 18 im thinking of one now may be a 20" bar it would have power a 372xp stander one yes thanks jon

Hi mate yes it should it should be fine on a 20" I have got a 20" for it I just haven't used it yet if you are getting a new one stihl say that the saw will take between 8 and 15 tanks of fuel before it's running on it's optimum power but I think it pulls like a train straight out of the box so can't wait to c what optimum power is like ImageUploadedByArbtalk1367049223.261672.jpg.1f91a7ee7f5bd70960eb898cd03ca19e.jpg and also the saw is really well balanced with the 18" bar ru local to Gloucester if you r you are welcome to have a go with mine before you buy one
