Ms 650 to 660?

I've aquired a mint ms650 which I want to use for milling.

Now my understanding of the difference between the 650 and 660 are only three things: the Piston, the cylinder and the badge.

The saw has the original p+c which are in as new condition. I understand milling can be quite hard on saws so I wondered if it would make sense to get a cheap aftermarket p+c kit for a 660 and put it on my 650.:001_huh:

Anyone done this?

Got any thoughts on it?

Oh yeah, it'll be milling with a 36" bar so 30"-ish max but probably more like 20" most of the time.

Quick answer is yes I have done it and yes it will fit straight on.

Even quicker answer is NO!!! Don't put a cheap p&c kit on. I've spent a fortune on mine and have ended up getting a genuine 660 p&c kit which I HOPE will be ok but only time will tell.

I'm sure Spud will be along soon to give his thoughts, he's been more than helpful to me whilst I've been trying to sort this saw out.:thumbup:

I have a series of aftermarket p&c kits on various saws, including an 066. No problems to date, including milling with an 044 which has been worked very hard.

I think it depends on which aftermarket kit you get to an extent. There are some rather dubious ones, but then there are others that come out of the same factory as the 'genuine' ones from some top brands. Spud has a better handle on which suppliers you need for which quality.
