Timber Auction

Anybody interested in a North West timber Auction. If so what size lots makes most sense. Timber is either in large rings or already split into logs.

Would also be interested in selling surplus forestry equipment at the sale if anybody needs to get rid of surplus plant. PM me if interested.

John, there have been two firewood auctions in the north east in the last twelve months. The first, last October, was organised by Northwoods, our local RDPE and had lots ranging from nets of kindling to cordwood. Whilst I was told afterwards there were more than 300 registered buyers I would have said they were about 80 following the auctioneer around and a lot of the people I spoke to were "trade" - tree surgeons, foresters, landscape gardeners and farmers looking to see what prices were being achieved.

The second was in January and was run by the mart in a different part of the county. Whilst I was not there,I was told most of the lots were put in by farmers and had just been cut up. A firewood producer I know achieved 60% of his regular price for one cubic metre bags of kiln dried timber.

I think people attending were looking for a real bargain. I dont think I would hurry back to attend one, especially as the mart were charging 20% sellers commission.

Regards
