Husky' 435?

Hi All

 

Very new to the world of chainsaws and I'm looking to buy my first one for firewood chopping - probably about 5 tonnes a year, 12 - 18 inches in diameter.

 

Despite some very economical Draper and Mountfeild saws, I have found a new Husky' 435 for £290 inc' a spare chain.

 

Is this a good saw?

 

Any advice welcomed.

Its probably way better than your Draper / Mountfield stuff. I think its a small semi pro type saw. Although I use mostly Husky saws mine are all pro saws ( X.P.) . Some one will come along with a definative answer shortly I am sure .

Its the lightest Husky available and is a proper made in Sweden Husqvarna. It would be ideal for your proposed use.

I have a 435e and its underpowered for what you want to do. I would go for at least a 346xp.

That seems to be two very different opinions?

 

Also a 346 is the best part of £500, whereas the 435 is £290.

 

Is it really too underpowered to do the amount of cutting I need? I don't need it for continuous professional use.

 

Any other opinions?

To be honest I don't know . never having used one . I have a 346xp ( ported and tuned by spud ) and that would be more than you need . The way I see it you should get the best saw you can afford rather than up grading several times when you see/find/are told of, something better . Also a properly sharpened chain counts for a hell of allot . You godda know how to to do that . Apologies if you can sharpen up ok .

18" dia; forget the 435 unless you've really got that much spare time. Nearer 60cc than 40cc imo.
