I have never heard of anyone getting a disease from virgin peat compost. Could this compost he was using been made form rubbish you take down the tip.

 

dont know - it was reported in scotland

I heard on the radio this morning that this is more associated with peat free compost. I think the logic is that Legionnaire's from compost is more common in Australia, and most of their compost is peat free.
