in a tight spot rigging down smaller stuff, isnt that topping strop a little excessive?

 

Yes of course it is, but a 13mm is a bit too far the other way! I'm sure it could be useful, but I still think a 3.5 m length would be better used as a lanyard, and keep rigging gear seperate and made of stuff designed for purpose. A 13mm double braid rope would make a better topping down strop, and if used with an old climbing line it would make a good lighweight set up.
