First arb job for a career changer?

To be an excellent arb consultant you have to have climbed and worked in the crowns and canopies of trees as a climber/tree surgeon for a good length of time. Coming from this background enables you to have a more thorough and complete understanding of how to identify structural weaknesses within the tree, the most critical part of tree inspection.

Many people who haven't come from a climbing background call themselves arb consultants, to put it simply, they're deluded.

I was thinking more of basic tree surveying rather than consultancy work. For instance there's a utility company (I think) currently advertising for experienced tree inspectors:

I don't think this would require the same level of knowledge as a consultant would it?

In answer to the age question, I'm in my early thirties.

My mates all think I'm mad. Been running my own business in ladies fashions for 25 years and started a firewood business in March of this year. Reasons - healthy outdoor work, aching muscles, crap financial return but I still love it!! Age is no barrier. I'll be 60 next year. I've always believed you can achieve anything with enough motivation. If you want to do it, go for it m8
