I think your right Bjerkandera adusta was on my short list but wasn't too sure so thats why i thought of posting it on here for a proper diagnosis

 

I thought they were good pictures, its one that can catch a lot of people out.

I don't think anyone said they were poor pictures, just a little context imagery (size, location etc) is quite useful right at the start of an Id

No, because of the colour of the pores : Bjerkandera fumosa.

No criticism intended but I still believe it is Bjerkandera adusta. I have been looking into this one of late and especially the 2nd lot of images I believe tie in well.

No criticism intended, but I've seen several hundreds of annual brackets of both B. adusta and B. fumosa over the last 35 years and these specimen have no macroscopical characteristics of B. adusta at all. But to be 100 % sure : microscope.

This may be a stupid question but what do you look for when using microscopes. ??
