Tip: Marking wet wood for milling

Another alternative for marking fresh wood is one made by Veritas for use in their Log Scribe "Veritas Indelible Pencils", available in black and red, see

Cheers for the tip Morten - I've been using a tipex type pen recently which works well ..... until it siezes up! I'll try a few of these especially the brighter colour ones.

 

 

Well I got some - but have to say not getting on with them that well. The 'lead' or what is used for the inside is very soft and I'm finding you're resharpening after every line... esp in the heat.

Did you ever try out the Stabilo All pencils, though? I find them great. Very similar to normal (graphite) pencils, but they wok on virtually any surface. Even newly debarked, sap-wet, slippery logs.

Funny it's called a ping line. But does it work when wet?

 

I ve seen roofers using a simlar set up but with a wet line they have a jar with dye in the water to ping the lines for there battens

These are def the Stabilo All pencils - they're ok but turn to mush in the heat - or mine did!
