got a large bluegum to remove this week and was just wondering when blocking down which knot's are best to attach the block to the stem due to being so smooth.

thanks

PS - the slings probably won't slip too much, but if you find they do, just cut a small notch out of the trunk and when you tighten the sling it will fit snuggly into the notch. Prob not text book stuff but i've used it a few times!

I know guys in USA who used to use a clove hitch for tying blocks onto stems - they claimed the bend ration of the rope was not as great as in a th and a ch, but i didn't find it that goo tbh, the block seemed to slip out the knot and fall several inches making it further away from the section to be cut - i'll stick to ch and th!

thanks guys just wondering if u had to do anything differnt due to the smoothness of the bark

I realise youve done the job by now,but when I rig bluegum(smoothbark) I rig the pieces with a marlin hitch and a clovehitch tied off with 2 half hitches as opposed to say a half hitch and a running bowline,I prefer cow hitches for the block if the sling is long enough.
