Just wondering how many people out there use 8" carving bars and why? as lots of you mention them. I use a 10" and often find that it doesn't have enough reech on bigger carvings so am considering a 14".

I've sold more 8" carving bars than any other.... But I think you use them more as an additional combo i.e. you already have another chainsaw with a 12" or 14" bar.

I use 8" dime bar on an ms 192. As a hobby carver and female I need to have good control with minmal weight. I originally had a 12" bar but the 8 inches is easier for me. I'd like to be on an 8" quarter tip with a full house chain, but I don't have the time to research how to achieve this eg filing links etc.
