Grizedale is just east of Lake Coniston and just west of windermere (right in the middle) its a huge place with many interesting trees and sculptures and artwork and miles and miles of aloneness:thumbup:

 

I love the lakes, we went to grizedale last bank holiday just gone, wish i coulda stayed longer:biggrin:

Its a long drive to the lakes, and this climb up loose scree was also a mission but I have to say, it was very very worth it, even for this chicken shot!:lol:

This lovely old Oak Q. petrea was only held to the rock face by anchor roots, the entire tree completely overhanging a 20ft plus drop!:001_cool:

A nice group of pollard sessile Oak Q. petrea in an enclosure of dry stone walling- to keep stock OUT not in! lot of early industry in the area, smelting, lime kilns and the production of gunpower. The Juniper of the area was the preferred charcoal for military products as it had a faster ignition rate.

And the rare Bagot breed of goat thats causing a fair amount of damage, far more than sheep or cattle IME, but as the breed is named after the owners family he adores them! I can see his point, they are very handsome goats!:001_rolleyes:
