we normally buy in priced per tonne, ive just been offered some green hornbeam, cherry & ash, priced at £35 per m3, anyone how this would roughly convert to price per tonne?

thanks

Getting back to the original question the answer is still the same. Double the rate per m3 to get to a rate per tonne just remember that the rate quoted may already include an allowance of 50% for air in which case you will not need to make the adjustment. Case of buyer beware as it can be a costly mistake.

all this talk of weight and volume.

Surely years seasoned must come into the equation too

Isn't volume the best (most accurate) method taking into account air spaces.

Would it then be best to give a price for m3 of cord and a small premium based on years stored- means you could sell it quicker. Or is cord always sold fresh felled.

Sorry- not my subject but always wondered

Then again if its say oak then wouldn't a m3 be worth more than say a m3 of alder

Complicated

thanks again for the replys, it does get complicated, worsened by my ability to guess anything when the wood is in the forest, it sure is easier when you have something familiar to size things up against!! the timber stack is around 16m3, i will find about what has been taken into account for air space, seems to me there isnt much 'middle ground' with forestry, heavy wood is by the tonne, lighter wood is by m3...... how does a mixed load normally get sold?

cheers all!
