Like yourself Chris, I've been experimenting a bit, depending on how hard you pull/push the bar through the timber effects the finish, ive also tried cutter angles down to 0 degrees, this coupled with raker heights, really effects sppeds and finishes. I've also found that the drier/ more seasoned the timber the more chance of getting the washboard finish, adding a water drip seems to stop this a bit. I've also chatted with some millers in the US, and for big stuff there using harvester bars and 3/4 pitch chains, a lot of wastage, but on the sizes there talking about, it doesnt seem to bother them, some are even using 4 stroke motors up to 25hp on setups a bit like the bandsaw mills, oh how i wish we had the resources and time!!!!!
