How much to sharpen££??

Maybe I should not have asked!

I think I will stick to my vintage Atterton & Ellis grinder, less chance of losing my prescious digits.

The problem with throwing sand in, is that it will take the leading edge off. For it to work the cylinder would need to rotate backwards.

In essence, this is what we do when we 'backlap'. We rotate the cylinder in reverse with a variable speed drill, set the cylinder down to the bottom bar and add grinding paste. The result is a perfectly matched cutting edge.

Just remember to wash away all traces of grinding paste before turning the cylinder in the normal direction, or you will take the edge straight back off.

We charge an extra £5.00 if the chain comes in on the machine and offer a next day turn around. We did have one guy that used our online chain sharpening service and sent in 80 chains, we did let him down as it took a while to get through that lot. I've got a photo somewhere of the box full but I can't find it, if I track it down I'll put it on here.:001_smile:

We used to use a Express Dual and The Master cylinder grinders as well as a Angle Master bottom blade grinder. We have 2 other cylinder grinders but I can't remember the names now.

We stopped doing cylinder work about a year ago, so these machines are up for sale if anyone is interested.
