Hedge laying

Thanks guys, nice advice! Being advised to thin the overhanging row is a massive weight off my mind! Thru the hedge there is a, good variation in size of stem, so I will get some practice With the bill hook! I've been in Arb for about 5 years now so I feel confident I'll soon get the feel for the hawthorn hinge!

Am I right to put a new binder, every stake, at the bottom of the binders ( does that make sense) ? Cheers

Not sure what you mean. You start with four binders and add another at each stake. As Rover said previously it would help if you maybe got some tuition otherwise you may look back at the hedge each time you pass and cringe:001_smile:

Very nice Rover!

Since I'm only doing my own hedge and cutting my own binders I use anything that comes to hand (not just hazel), so I tend to select material with a low fork, then put the fork round the end stake. Not as pretty, but works.

Matches, diesel, bale of straw and a tractor with a buckrake, or loader & fork.

You're going to have a big old pile of brash when you're finished, even after sorting out the firewood!

Burning on site rules!

Sure does ! Lucky enough to have a JCB load all ! A speedy easy clean up , :001_smile: ! Did 33 meters today, lot of hard graft to make up the thinking time !
