FdSc Arboriculture (On-line)

Hi all, Been looking in to this online foundation degree. I have a couple of question someone might be able to help me with. Myerscough seems to be the only place that does it that I can find, are there others? and how does it work? do they send you lectures on dvd? and how much work does it involve? I apperciate that it will be hard, but is it possible to do with a family and working 5-6 days a week.? Thanks.

RobArb on here does the fdsc online. I've done the fdsc onsite and continued to the bsc

 

It is all delivered through moodle, myerscoughs online system, you get session notes and information through there each week.

Hi mal, yes rob is right I currently do the fdsc online and I'm in my second year (the online course is 3 year delivery compared to 2 years on campus). I too work a 40 hour week and have 2 kids (and wifey) that need looking after. The college recommends you do 20 to 25 hours "study" a week and that is what I try to put in.

 

Firstly, it is hard work, you have to be self disciplined and willing to do the work asked.

 

Secondly, the delivery is broken up into modules (6 in the first year, 4 thereafter) and these modules are then broken up and taught by weekly "sessions" with each session having a pdf file or two to read and a couple of exercises to do.

 

Assignments are usually 1 or 2 per module which are submitted via email, college uploads, and post (hard copy), exams are 1 per module done at home with an adjudicator (i use a neighbour who is an ex teacher)

 

I thoroughly enjoy it but I'm kind of a tree nerd and am very interested in the subject (you have to be)!

 

I will repeat though it IS hard work, but worth it in my opinion especially if you end up paying the new expensive fees

Thanks Rob, if i think of anything else i will ask. I'm going to ring them on monday to make sure i would meet the entry criteria, and take it from there.
