If you fix the saw on the cheap and he breaks it surely he will come back down to you and so the vicious circle begins . Personally if its nailed tell him so then buy him a pint and tell him if you hear of a decent cheap saw going you'll let him know .

 

You could always offer him a token gesture and say some parts off the saw could come in handy ?
