Be prepared for more work needed to shift rings bigger than ~16" trunk diameter: not many turners have a lathe big enough to handle the weight. Also when it comes to the smaller stuff (~12" or less) it's worth logging up between every other ring of knots so you leave the option of a tall vase being turned. Less cutting for you too of course.
