if you have a 130 hp vehicle and wind it up to 150 hp all components are under alot more stress than what they were set up for.

In my opinion if you need 150 hp buy 150hp

 

Increased stress loads on units will wear alot quicker .

 

I know most of the gear boxes and axles are standard through the mid range units but often i have seen and heard of wound up vehicles failing.

 

Over heating becomes a big problem and you spend more time keeping the rad clean than working.

increased boost with no increase of fueling will actually lower running temps, an increase of fueling alongside the boost should keep temps in the same range. Unlike petrols which run hotter when lean, diesels are the opposite and run at optimum efficiency very lean indeed. If in doubt, fit an EGT gauge in my opinion.

 

stresses on components should always be considered however, but if everything's in tip top order, maybe 20hp wont make enough difference.

yea see your point Jim, didn`t think if it that way.

 

But i don`t think you can substitute extra power by a bigger turbo in the same way as an engine set up to run at that power.

 

I may be wrong but i think you can over turbo a diesel engine and never get that much more out of it .

I know where there is a 2003 Fastrac 3220 in immaculate condition going for a song, or at least several thousand below bottom book Value. My mate owns a finance company and has repossesed one.

 

ohh cheers Ed , i think it will be a few months before we will be buying and then i think it will be leased.

Have you any dealings with fastracs in arb?

and is my idea of running one unit going to work or will it be to much of a compromise between applications?

I know Graham at ALG finance will be more than happy to do you a lease deal.

 

I would go the tractor rather than Unimog route, the road speed difference is negligable, they are better off road and tow heavy weights much better, you will get more for your money with a tractor than a mog.

 

As for tractors, the technical ability of the Fendt is fantastic, the downside is the repair bills when they go wrong - and running a flail is a quick way of finding any gremlins in a transmission.

Fastrac is probably not as good as fendt but dealer support is great and parts are cheap(ish).

I personally like the fastrac for arb type work.
