I have done my CS30 and CS31 courses and have been trying to volunteer my services during weekends but it seems no one is niterested, how ever I am booked in to do my CS38 course at the end of March and I need some advice from the knowledge base here:

What kit is needed for a climber?

I have emailed a company called Honey Bros who have been recommended by my local saw shop and am waiting for their reply but I wanna know what you guys can suggest.

Thanks for the help!

I think you do CS38 on a split tail climbing system [although I've not done it so can't say for sure!]

If so then climbing rope, harness, split tail, half a dozen 3 way crabs, prusik loop or 2, small pulley, personal 1st aid kit, friction saver might be an idea. Not sure if you need a throw weight & line.

Also a proper climbing helmet.

45m rope, 2 x 50cm prussic loops, 4 x 3 way locking carabiners, harness, 1 x split tail 5m as a minimum to get you up the tree & started. Wire core flip line & spikes for pole climbing. Then a throw line & throw bagd come in handy

Don't buy the prussik loops just by 2 or 3 meters of 10 mm prussik cord ie Yale silver streak much cheaper way of buying prussiks most shops just rip people off! Get your instructor to show you the double fishermans knot and away you go!! But my real advice to you is don't rush out and buy a **** load of gear you might not like climbing! And if your instructor has anything about him and not some prat he will have quite a bit of equipment to try out! Have fun and happy climbs! Where is your course !??

I make you right about the prussik loops it's much cheaper to buy it by the metre.

If you buy them in loops it works out a lot more as we have to buy them in tied and tested with individual serial number. Gone are the day when we tied them in house, can't get the insurance for it.:001_smile:

Totally agree,

everybody likes different length prussik loops, just remember the double fishermans knot uses 500mm of cord.

This is the Basic list we send out

Suitable boots for climbing.

Personal first aid kit & knife with retractable blade.

Where is your course !??

Not sure of the location at present but my instructor is a guy called Terry and he operates out of Bristol. He took me for my 30 and 31.

Thanks for the advice guys. I may be jumping the gun by asking but I would rather know and be prepared than go in blind. I made that mistake with the 30 and bought wellies. Soon sorted that with a pair of haikes.

Will try and take as much on board as I can.
