Yeah i know. Better now. That was 8 weeks ago after i had a new batch of wood to have a go in my lathe. All unlabelled but some definite ash in there.

 

So now i take antihistamines daily just incase and got creams. Also good ventilation is a must!!

 

As for oak coming from a joinery perspective the acid which preserves the oak is the evil element. Think it can tinge metal blue on recollection.

The stuff which turns steel blue is the tannin in the oak. This actually erodes steel over time. It can't be that bad for us as wine takes on the tannin from the barrels it's stored in.

Old joiner i worked with showed me his fingers. The ends were tinged blue!
