Im being thick..

Been felling today. Logs at 3.7m so i measured each one at thinnest end with a normal cm tape. Now this is not a dbh tape.

I have become all confused as i ve thought too much. To work out volume do i need to convert cm in inches them divide by pi? does nt seem right as a log 126cm diameter ends up at 15 dbh......ermmm no!!

 

So a 3.7 log at 126cm/49 inches divide by pi=15cm.

On sawlogs tables=0.08m3

To work out volume of soft wood sawlogs you just use your sawlog top diameter tables....never mind volumes of cylinders, that dont work.

volume of a cylinder is pi x r2 x height. (or in a logs case length) but it still isnt relevant here.

iam a bit confussed with the above.just TD them in cm and then blue book or volume table ie 3.7m sawlog 22TD equals .18m3

Eh? Centimetres is normal, (o/bark or under) rounded down to the even # and then just whack that against the table with the stick length and that's you

 

Normal tape is fine! dbh tape - ignore.

Yes im an idiot i was using circumference not top diameter......... did a calculation and its makes more sense now......

As above- use a normal tape.
