Hi All

Just doing my risk assessment and have a small quandry

Myself and my students will be working (tree planting) in a small woodland tomorrow where TSs wll be on site dismantling trees.

Is the safe working distance still 2 tree lengths when stuff is being roped and dropped down?

Am thinking we may not be able to go to the wood if so as nowhere is that far away so the wood is too small.

Client thought it a good idea to book us both on the same day!

Trees are all tall overcrowded sycamore

Thanks is advance

generally the wording is no Unauthorised persons within 2 tree lengths but as long as they are controlled then that usually suffices otherwise you would have to shut roads and evacuate houses or even shut schools ect.

IMO it would be completely down to the tree contractor and their work pattern ect

well it would if I was the contractor

its up to them as you guys are 'targets'. But you can reckon on two tree lengths while they are felling, for your work planning i guess. Having had the area checked over for hazrds (eg hangars/trips) you could work closer once everything is on the ground. Somebody should put striped barrier tape up, cheap and easy

Thanks all

Might get them to put up bird boxes in another area but am running out of jute tree tie webbing to hang them up with.

Anyone got any ideas what else I can use that wont choke the trees?

I want to avoid nail use but have been given lots of aluminium nails to use and want to arrive with a better alternative so I can dissuade the client from wounding lots of trees if we can avoid it. :confused1:
