I became the worst kind of smoker, the smoker who smoked too much, at work and at home, had to have a smoke on the go all the time. I now have no desire to smoke whatsoever, I am repulsed by the smell, I never realised how selfish I was to smoke around non smokers who had no enjoyment of it. I never realised how much I smelt to others of the stale tobacco on my breath, in my clothes, from my pores. I now know all this, and since I have been ill for the last 3 months, I have come to appreciate my health a lot more, believe me the fear of pulmonary embolisms, kidney failure and various other issues are enough to make one take more care, especially when it happens to you. But I guess you'll be like the old me, and not give a damn about any of that, coz it always happens to someone else, who is old and infirm, and carry on smoking away and enjoying it

My young draggers and lifters always seem to be fiddling with papers and bacca and lighters, coughing and spitting,no wonder their stamina has gone by lunchtime breathing all that in. I prefer the lovely fresh air anytime.

I don't find that though, I can start work with at a fast pace, and still be at the same pace by the end of the day... doesn't matter whether I'm dragging and chipping or climbing and cutting. Depends on level of fitness I suppose. I do know I'd find it damn hard to give up though.

Ditto that.

Never been a heavy smoker, and smoking a lot less these days though as missus is expecting and can't stand the smell. She's been off them 3 months now. Reckon 2 of us giving up at the same time was a bad idea. You are right and not going to argue with you about the health implications. Couldn't give a toss about the smell though. I don't do it in enclosed spaces with non-smokers, not forcing them to have a sniff. They don't do me the same courtesy holding their guts in the van, I might add.

My missus doesn't smoke, but she doesn't mind me smoking. I say that, but she does occasionally get on the nagging wagon. I'd go mad if I couldn't smoke at before work/lunch/after work, but being busy all day definitely makes me forget about it. I think it's a boredom thing. You're right about the gut holding in the van, that probably smells worse than smoke!
