I had another go yesterday climbing a wellingtonia. I found one in caversham which had no deadwood and some good anchor points where I could get my throwline over. It was alot easier than Saturdays and I got to the top!:) Does anybody know where there are any coastal redwoods in the Berkshire, wiltshire, oxfordshire or Hampshire areas?

Hi all, I had a go climbing a Wellingtonia today but found it quite difficult. Getting a good branch to put the rope over took ages because of the way the branches slope down. The tree was around 30-35 metres tall but I only got to around 17 metres. Does anyone know any good ways to climb them?

They are rare through out the uk ... I've only Felled two coastal reds .... The thing with wellies us IMO you just have to take them slow , they are brittle and the majority of the branches below a certain height will always be sloping down.... I have tried SRT but to be honest felt uncomftable because firing a line in to an undead wooded hulk you can't see what your tied in too... just take them nice and slow Untill you get an anchore and they are a breeze!
