Works better than the 3-5 finger brash grapple believe it or not ! That machine is hired our machine is better set up than that one now..

 

Really? I thought the lack of bypass was its biggest failing. I would have thought a proper grapple would have been much better.

That is a big problem, BUT JCB have been fiddling for weeks trying to set up the new grapple without much luck so far.

nice machinery there. those komatsu 360's are nice to work with.

i like those jobs where you can get stuck in with big kit, did a big rhodie clearance job last year had 2 komatsu 21 tonners grubbing out into piles, forwarder extracting to an air burner with a telehandler to load.

yup. i imagine it could be a very productive machine but we never got anywhere near the claimed output, perhaps because of the fresh green nature of the rhodies we found we were burning an equal amount of commercial wood waste to keep it alight.

Really that's interesting as i recommended that system to client of mine the other day who had a 100 tons of rotting logs ! Should of mulched the rhody maybe ?

mulching wasnt an option, customer wanted a sterile site. rhody was to be burnt then ash carted off site to be disposed of elsewhere. initially i thought we were contaminating the green waste with soil as we were having to repeatedly move the waste to areas where the forwarder could get access but when i did my turn loading the burner everything was clean. no matter whether you loaded an arm full or a grab full at a time it had no effect. was claimed to burn 20- 30 tonnes per hour but i think we were struggling to burn 5 an hour

That looks like an enjoyable job, lots of machinery and straight forward conifers to take down. Plenty to get stuck into:thumbup1:

Ive burnt 20 tonnes an hour of fresh rhody without an air burner. Just pile it up high! I usually just rake it out the ground with the excavator, pile it in stacks and leave for 2 weeks to wilt. Go back and apply old tyre to eaach stack. We usually have about 30 fires going at a time.

I enjoy rhody clearance.
