I'm going to give it a tentative pull with the Tirfor, just to geat a measure of what it is capable of. I could also get a big tractor in there too. I think winching is more predictable.

 

If it is beyond me I'll call a pro.

Since you are having a go yourself make sure you put the cable nice and high up the tree, not at the top of a 10 foot ladder.

Hi - looking again at your photo, there is not much holding it up, it could easily drop between the supporting trees if the wind picks up again.

 

The risk is as it's starting to be lifted it could drop, which would multiply the pulling force - hence the need for a powerfull winch tractor.

 

If it was mine I may try to hold it (bit risky getting a cable up high) with a winch but I would contact some contractors, lift company/farm contractor etc or there maybe some guys on here that are local and could do the job for you.

 

As I put in my earlier post, if it's a risk walk away and get somebody in.

Good luck in trying yourself but like said earlier if a pro comes in they have insurance and as if not more important experiance in the fact they could have seen such or similar situation and be more aware of the root ancorage and soil type could affect the way it is still held up!

Be careful giving it a tentative pull. You could dislodge it and then be forced to have to finish the job. Like others have said though be sure and get a video and report back. I'd be more inclined to go with the big tractor than the tirfor. At least with a tractor you can give it the gas if needed.

Don't p-ss about talking about it, get on with it or it will be down on your building, there is very little holding it up, get a winch with serious pulling power "10 tonne+", put the rope up 2/3 the tree and pull it over in one go allowing plenty of distance between tractor-winch and the tip of the tree, don't bother with fergie's or 4x4 trucks they will be just be spinning and getting nowhere, brute force is the order of the day here, get it done as quick as you can ...... also you can put a pulley up a tree about 20foot up to make the pull level,that make it easier on the winch, as the winch then is not pulling into the ground so much, if you see what i mean. good luck.
