Ford Transit Faulty Solenoid?

The starter motors just packed up again on my 2001 ford transit (replaced 8 months ago). When I turn the key I get a click from the solenoid but no turning of the motor. If the headlights are on they don't dim at all. Am I right in thinking this means the solenoid is faulty rather than the motor?

Got a mate popping round in a bit so I can give it a tap whilst he turns the key, and I can't really get at it to bypass the solenoid to see :sneaky2:

If you have a voltage metre to hand check the voltage on the starter terminal rather than the wire when trying to start. Got a vw had similar symptom this morning, bad conection causing voltage drop after split second. Enough to make it click but then nothing. Try removing the solinoid wire and cleaning conections.

Changed if for another one today and its all good, as soon as I took it off I tried it and it worked with leads, just tried it again and it's definitely the solenoid at fault so I'll get one ordered in so I've got a spare starter. Mind you it'll be in the wrong place when it goes.....

Cheers for the feedback guys
