I have a road towable screw splitter similar to this (without the conveyer belt) It has a Honda 13hp single engine. It is fine on easy splitting stuff like sycamore and faster than a hydraulic one but if you put on tuff stuff , say gnarly old elm with a helical grain heart wood and strait grained outer it can stall and then you loose all the time you gained cutting the stuck wood off the cone.It really needs about 30hp and loadsa torque like you get with the tractor mounted type .

Got the hycrack with the larger platform. Brilliant tool but think the screw could have been designed to have been a couple of inches further up from the platform so it doesnt just split the lower end of the log. Safety . . .watch the log doesn't spin over and bash your right hand. Better not to use any grip with your right hand, just light support so you can quickly let go should the log flip over. Also don't be distracted and look away while you have a log splitting.
