hi everyone i,am after advice please on taking the pressure off this lovely nice n light ms250 i,ve been given as a gift of a good friend of mine

what i,am use to using is a 038 and a ms 341 for general use and have found the ms 250 a lighter saw to use for sorting my dry seasond firewoood out etc. But a tad underpowered Its fitted with a 18" bar at the moment and i feel the saw could do with a shorter bar n chain and was thinking of going upto 3/8 chain and sprocket ?????? but shorter bar and a bit faster chain speed

1 >> will i have to replace the bar and best match for engine size etc

2>> what tooth sprocket best/better in 3/8 6 or 7 tooth ??

3>> what chain is best for chomping through dry logs etc

4>> or am i better leaving it standard as it is and leave it well alone etc

5>> has anyone tried it and did it work out for the better

just thinking out loud too lol all this gear just to burn some wood on my log burner to keep warm lol>>> trailers plot of land saws petrol all the maintainance etc but love it. The smell and poking around with the fire watching the flames etc . Oh!! and fighting with the dog i,ve now got him a rug so i can pull him out the way of the fireplace why i put more logs on then pull him back on rug lol

i had a 250 it had a 16inch bar on and it was fine as long as the chain was sharp.

if you go to 3/8 you would be taking more wood off per cutter so wouldnt that make the saw work harder?

if the wood is seasoned it would be harder so therefore it would take more power to cut it.

The 025 MS250 around here in hardwoods work best with 16" .325 RSC chain.

Full 3/8 chain 7/32 cutter will make that saw a real turd. JMO.

Now you might be able to run the picco 3/8LP PS3 chain if you switch bars and sprockets.

I ran that set up picco 3/8LP PS3 5/32 cutter on a poulan 260 42cc and it would out cut the 025 with 325 rsc.

Fit with

Oregon chain 95VPX062E 15" .325 050 low profile narrow kerf chain, smooth fast and less vibration just ask those on here who use it on 026's MS260's

and fit Bar 150MPGD025 15" .325 050

Then you will see your MS250 cut faster than ever due to less resistance in the cut.

you can go 16" with a 95VPX067E chain and 160MPGD025 bar

Any MS240, 250 and 260/261 will benefit from this conversion and you can use your original .325 sprocket
