These tractors with cranes on are ok on reasonable ground, but any sort of steep or rough terrain forget it. too unstable

i very rarely use mine on stable and level ground, no problems if you work within its limits :001_smile:

The jake plate is certainly a lot more stable, but my previous roofmount had a huge crane on it, i was twitchy on it at first but soon got used to it, the previous owners operator would take it places you wouldnt want to walk:laugh1:

i am ok on my tractor, maybe just above ok,:001_rolleyes: but i now have an operator on my site who within 10 mins was far better than me. He is a true machineman and sometimes i am left speechless to what he can do with kit:thumbup1:

tbh my crane isnt big enough to warrant them, it doesnt budge.

Acprice are now Jake plate dealers. My mate has just had 2 valmets built by them, monster cranes, the biggest has legs. He had to extend drawbars etc. But he is into some serious tree work and firewood. I am just playing:laugh1:

Think it's a case of matching the crane to the tractor/ballsating to suit.

My old county was pretty stable, only picked a back wheel up a couple of times, first was within a few hours of it arriving (definitely operator error) second time was just oushing my luck a bit.

Worst thing I found was forwarding out pointing up hill - didn't take a lot to lift a front wheel at all. First time it did that was a bit of an arse nipper

I had the county 1164 james jones conversion with a 6 tonne trailer behind, it was ok for forwarding on easy ground or along rides or tracks, but very cumbersum for turning in tight spaces, no good for up hill forwarding at all, then i sold that and bought a valmet 820 forwarder, what a transformation, i could go everywhere i liked with tracks and chains on, output more than doubled, warm and dry with radio on, i thought i hit the big time ,lol. but i still hold a soft spot for county's
