Tony,

Although you're spoiling Sean's quest for the name of the species, his mystery tour ends here, because you're right : it is the facultative ectomycorrhizal Paxillus involutus in its temporary saprotrophic phase.

 

I am still going to go and take my first spore print as part of my education. Thanks for the encouragement.:001_smile: Will try not to be too impatient in the future and will be more open to your guidance which i'm sure will only serve to enhance my fungi experiences.:001_smile:

Hygrocybe (me thinks):001_smile:

 

The only 2 i can see with a tapering stem are 'splendidissima' and 'intermedia' which i have listed as rare.

 

Found beneath a lime tree although i'm not sure whether this is relevant or not.:001_smile:
