woodpecker holes

Priced a job to remove a dead larix decidua the tree was full of small holes the lady said it was from a woodpecker it looked like it had been used for firing practice. would this be the woodpecker looking for grubs of a beetle ?.Will add pic later

 

If it was anywhere near Melbourne Park then it probably was used for firing practice

Here's a larch with woodpecker peck holes. Must be grubs under there.

Here in the states we also have a type of wood pecker know as the yellow bellied sap sucker this bird really enjoyes pecking and slurping the sap from maple trees amoung other sap producing trees as well as insect consumption. The last picture in this thread could have been taken in SW Florida, USA since I have seen the like many times over the years.
