If only people would get the idea of seasoning themselves when they have the space. A friend of ours is installing our Rayburn for us, and relies entirely on his for all his heat and for the majority of his cooking. Until now, his firewood supply has been entirely sporadic, with him often splitting semi seasoned timber for the evening's fire. In return for installing our Rayburn, I am sorting out his firewood supply for future years. We are currently at around 38 cubic metres and counting!

just how accurate are these moisture meters? and who sells them?

The one I use is very accurate, and calibrated too:

The hammer probes also allow you to measure the MC in the middle of the log.

Was out at necton the other day and client got talking about logs,said he'd just had a nice load put into his store the previous day.I strolled over to the store at lunchtime to have a quick shufty and it was chestnut so black the water was running out of it.

Didn't say anything to him,but i wouldnt put my name to delivering that to my worst enemy.

Had a neighbour of a customer having a real go today calling me a rip off merchant for selling soaking wet wood as I was tipping off. Once they took a breath I managed to tell them that this customer has been buying 3 loads a year from me for the past 4 years and buys unseasoned to save himself money as he has the space to dry it himself.

 

No apology but she went off rather quiet.

 

Folk like that really boil my beans,lil armchair experts running there mouth trying to make knowledgeable hard working guys look like idiots..and for them to not apologize? downright spineless,a person who cannot admit there in the wrong aint too much of a person

I supply 2 cube seasoned 2 cube green or half seasoned depending on the customer. Why does the whole trailer need to be seasoned they won't burn it all tomorrow? I do tell them which is which mind.

No. Only charge less over the summer when split logs are direct from the wood. Not charging less i see far worse advertised as seasoned.
