tree id please

Recommended Posts

its not ilex latifolia - Tarajo, the leaves aren't big enough

A few questions

What was the bark like?

What are the buds like?

What is the bud arrangement on the stem?

Do the leaves give off a distinctive smell when crushed?

Have you got any more pics or pics less blurry?

I'll do my best to ID it for you:biggrin:

smells like holly when crushed [the same smell when you are chipping holly]

ive seen your 2 post rob and i like you think some kind of holly, sorry only grabbed this branch[pic]on the way out,so not a good look at bark, buds etc

tree was quite large though:001_rolleyes:

will see if i can take a few better pics

Good call:thumbup:

but is has been mentioned about berries which the Holm Oak does not have

Agree entirely with you Rob. I noted the reference to berries but sometimes the acorns are so tightly implanted within the cup that they could be misconstrude as berries - just a thought :confused1:

could also be Quercus ilex then, worth a thought then as armybloke states:thumbup:

Bark is a dead giveaway between Q. ilex and Ilex sp.

Better pictures of buds and bud arrangement will give me more info to work with to get a positive id:biggrin:
