Hi all.

All the closeboard fencing I've done to date has been with wooden posts and then I make up the panels as I go along. I have a customer who would like concrete posts and gravel boards and 2.4m panels. I cant find anywhere that makes panels over 1.8m and was wandering what people suggest. Would you make up 2.4m panels and slip them in or is the best advice to stick with the 1.8m...?

Thankyou

Why not do 2.4m close board bays set on concrete posts with concrete gravel boards?

You will need concrete recessed posts obviously

Or has the client specificlly requested panels?

Hi gobcutter

I've never come across anything pre made panels which are larger than 1.8 or 6x6. You may be able to get bespoke but I don't think you'd get the concrete kick board's to fit. Plus you'd be struggling with fitting 2.4 kicks as the standard 1.8 are a tad on the heavy side anyway. Stick to 1.8!

you will find all the concrete gravel boards are a standard size and will be 72" to match the standard size panel .Any longer than that will be gone in the first gust of wind,to flimsie

Concrte gravel boards come in all shapes and sizes look here for example for stuff from a leading supplier - Supreme Concrete

However, as stated above if you are set on putting in panels then gravel boards for slotted posts will be 1.83m (UK spec) and thats your lot!

Do you mean 2.4m high? If so I think you might find it difficult to find concrete posts that height.

As said above stick with the 1.8 or better still stick with the wooden posts - looks a lot better.

Thankyou very much everyone. I have now been able to get back to my client and they are happy to have 1.8m panels. Everything that was said all made sense but its great to have the reassurance. Thanks, Gobcutter

an idea for the future. when do closeboard fencing i get my posts made of box section steel, with a plate welded on the bottom and angle cleats welded to take the horizontals. the posts are then either painted or zinc galvanised. i erect them at a little over 2.4 metre centres to compensate for the width of the post. much nicer to work with than those horrible concrete things, and look nicer in my opinion.
