Thor farmer vs magik

Mick, did you compare the farmer version before you bought? If so any reason why you didn't go for the cheaper version instead

To be honest i tryed both and we wanted one with an engine so the tractor can feed it and power the eagle . Both very good machines but the magik is slightly better and its got the leader system. The only bit that annoyed me is the table is an extra 300£ but you got to have one.

cheers mick

I have the Thor super magik 18t.

I believe this is your third Thor splitter? After down sizing from your old 20t to the 10.5ton failure, did you consider the farmer models before purchasing the 18t magik? If so, any reason why didn't go for one instead.

Also mate, do you know what the difference is between the 'magik' and 'super magik' models. Thanks pal.

Just saw your post after I finished the last. Fair enough, thanks for your info.

The table does look expensive, I was thinking of just using a big lump beech or something instead, although unlike yourself I'll mostly be doing billets, so table not really an issue.

The 10.5 I bought because I thought it may be better to have an engine on it so it could be run independently freeing up the tractor to shift the logs about and could be wheeled about. It turned out to be too slow and very heavy to move about on rough ground.

I didn't go for the farmer because the 20t practico I sold to stevie blair was the top of the range and after the 10.5 t experience I wanted top of the range again or as near as I could get.

The 20t practico was an awsome machine.

I saw in another thread Blair was trying to flog on that old 20t to a lad for 1500 bucks. (If it was still for sale and I lived in Scotland, i would take it now). Have you considered trying to twist his arm into giving back the old 20t for your new 18t plus a cash adjustment, and no worries re: height issues in container storage, etc. You never with his love for new toys. lol.
