Never (yet) had a chain snap, and only once (sofar) had one come off. That was caught by the chain catcher with no damage to me other than an adrenaline rush.

 

I shall be quite happy if I never have one snap and never have another come off!

 

I only use Stihl, Husky, or Oregon chains; seems to me that it's not really worth taking any chances with a chain of unknown provenance.

used a landscaper mates saw the other week and the chain snapped ,closer look at the chain it was a cheap chain and the bar had worn away the bottom of the links. hes replaced the bar now and got a decent chain

snapped 2 so far one in 1987 and 1 a year ago.Cutting down a stump so i could grind it,hit metal chain snaps and jams the bar in the cut.I undid the bar and tried to grind around it. ended up hitting it.1 rooted 36'' bar.:thumbdown:
