cs38 help

Had my cs38 assessment today which went really well up to when I had to do the belay rescue from the "pole" which I could not remember how to do, which in turn caused me to fail. Can anybody tell me how to set up the belay rope system? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much for the info which is great, the bit that got me was setting up the actual belay on the ground with the munter hitch. Instructions would be really helpful.

Never hade to do this on mine Was about 3 years ago when i did mine. Has this been brought in since then ?

Yes the pole resque was added in 2010 to both the Lantra training and City & Guilds assesment.

False cotch created with a split tail / strop above the injured party. Idealy a belay line should be pased through a pulley atatched to this split tail.

 

At the base of the tree a figure eight should be atatched to another split tail / strop. Pass the belay line through this and 'back it up' with a prussuk or blakes beneath the figure eight idealiy atatched to a seperate but shorter split tail / strop.

 

Atatch your self and injured party to the system as you would if the injured partys work line was damaged.

 

Load the system and 'check prior to removing' your and the injured partys restraints to the tree.

 

Sounds like a lot of split tails but you can use the oposite end of your or the injured partys ropes and redundant equipment on the injured partys harness. i.e. land yards.

I did not think that split tails were advised

slings are generally easier, cheaper more commonly found on a harness and safer than tying a split tail

I wouldn't worry if it's new since your training, i heard it's about to be taken out of the training as it's too intensive to learn for people completely new to climbing, it'll be run as a separate course i think.

In the meantime hope you learn it and pass next time.
