i know for all you old hand climbers this is not new..but it was to me.

you know when you got to get up a large limb that bends out and then goes vertical and there is nothing to grab hold on to like a crotch. i was puzzled how you get up one to work.

Well today i found out how. By throwing the end of your line into a crotch above you on a seaperate stem and lowering it to your groundie who bring the rope towards you , grab the rope pull it up to you, tie a bowline and attach to your carb on your harness, then using another friction knot and pull yourself over to the other limb:001_smile:

That was baffling me for ages and am so glad i know how now.

Hope i explained right, if i have not correct me if i didnt or missed something.

so what you did was double ending the rope, or using another rope to have two main anchor pionts???

yep thats a good one to know and your right always something new to learn almost every day.

used the same rope , just the other end..i didnt do it but my old instructor showed us it with another old student freind of mine.

what if, when you went to retrieve your secondary anchor and it got stuck in the crotch then your first one did aswell, so you coudnt lower yourself down. you would have to call the A Team. or even worse, your boss would have to come and rescue you.hahaha

Surely it must be just as easy to send up a different rope to use. Gosh I am being pessimistic today, sorry.

On my course I learnt to give a huge kick off the main stem and swing out to such branches. I like your method but jumping out is certainly quicker.

took a few goes to get comfortable doing it though, and there is the possibility of missing and swinging back into the stem, plus you look a bit funny hugging the branch while you strop off. plus jumping only works for shorter distances. Another case of horses for courses. Good method, good post :)
