also i was told you need to have employee cover which costs a bomb for small one man bands to cover subbies without there own insurance. A subbie with his own insurance is classed as a bonfide sub contractor, labour only requires employee liability.

I'm putting casual climbers down as an additional employee on top of existing

Sorry, should have been clearer. What I meant was,you would be legally responsible for the actions of the subbie as their employer and so your public liability insurance would also be called into play. :blushing:

I do some contract climbing over here and have my own insurance. In my belief it is the only proper manner to do it, unless your subbie is listed as an employee, which defeats the purpose me thinks!

May defeat the purpose but it is how the law treats the question of Employer's Liability :001_smile:

if the climber is just in to suppliment your team they are covered under your EL/PL. If they go off and do price work with their set up then they need to be insured as they would be a bona fide sub contractor.
